Lindy goes to Italy | BTS with Creative Stylist, Bethany | Lindy Bop
We caught up with our in-house Creative Stylist Bethany to get the lowdown on the fashion trip of a lifetime to Burano, Italy. Our S/S’19 collection is inspired by the romantic drama ‘Summertime’ (1955), featuring Katherine Hepburn who plays a secretary from Ohio, who takes her first trip to Venice, and the iconic scenes sitting in St. Mark’s Square. The collection is a festival of colour inspired by a combination of trends including delicate nature, circus stripes and central park. Dresses, skirts and tops feature gingham, stripes and bold hues alongside subtle pastels.
The designed collection comes first, and all styling aspects following must mirror this mood to create the perfect story. To achieve this Bethany scouted the most colourful places in Europe. After thoroughly researching into several locations including Tobermory in Scotland and Portmeirion in Wales the team decided upon Burano in Italy.
If any Lindy Boppers fancy having their very own Roman Holiday, Bethany has plenty of tips and tricks to share with you lucky readers! Keep reading to find out more.
Lindy Bop: Where was the best place you dined?
Bethany: On the first night before travelling to Burano we went to ‘Restaurant Antico Gatoleto’ in Venice. Pizza, pasta and wine!
Lindy Bop: How was it visiting Italy back in October 2018?
Bethany: Be prepared; if it’s forecast to rain, even lightly, it will pour it down torrential style. We thought this was a superstition, and we got caught in the storm on our first day! Luckily, it did clear up the following day, with no puddle in sight and it was sunny and warm for the rest of our trip.
Lindy Bop: How was travelling?
Bethany: There are lots of routes available when travelling to the island. Once in Venice get the Vaporetto (ferry) to Burano direct. We went to Venice – Murano – Murano – Burano. Not so great with so much luggage!
Lindy Bop: What was the location like?
Bethany: We stayed in apartments called ‘Tiffany Home’ on the edge of Burano, which had such a beautiful view. There was a brick bandstand, and harbour boats on the edge of the island. Town on one side, the sea on the other, it was the best of both! Burano is so small it can take you 20 mins to get from one side to the other by foot.
Lindy Bop: What was your favourite thing you did whilst there?
Bethany: Catching the 6.30 AM sunrise! Day to day it’s so full of tourists, so it was amazing to see Burano empty. No-one was around, making it a big change from the busy crowds during the day. It looked almost like a film set. I saw the locals cleaning their houses and flapping rugs out of windows, old school.
Lindy Bop: What was your favourite tourist attraction?
Bethany: The Gondola ride on our last day, 100%! We got some amazing shots that I can’t wait for everyone to see. It was great to see the famous Rialto Bridge too.
Lindy Bop: Top tip for budding travellers?
Bethany: For all of you who want the best “instagrammable” shots, get away from the hustle and bustle of the main high street by taking to the back streets. It’s much quieter and there’s plenty of brightly coloured walls to get that perfect snap.
Lindy Bop: What’s your favourite style from the collection and why?
Bethany: I have so many! I love western styling, so the ‘Claudine’ Red Gingham Shirt Dress with bow ribbon detail on the sleeves is an absolute favourite. Also, the ‘Audrey’ Rustic Blue Stripe Swing Dress which we shot against a contrasting red wall. It’s at the top of my shopping list!
