Printed Bridesmaid Dresses | Trend Alert | Lindy Bop

Once upon a time, no one would ever have dared to deviate from having all their bridesmaids in matching plain colour dresses. These days many of the so-called ‘rules’ around weddings are being thrown out of the window in favour of printed bridesmaid dresses. Many couples are now opting to blend the traditional with the modern in a vintage twist.

Creative brides are mixing it up, and we love receiving all your photos of the big day! We’re seeing bridesmaids in a variety of combinations, all of which might suit your wedding needs if you have a lot of maids in your bridal party. From the same style in different bright colours (see our Jewel Coloured Bridesmaid Dresses blog post here) to the same shape in different patterns and prints, to each maid wearing a different style and print, bridesmaid dress ideas are truly endless!

By choosing colours and shapes to suit each of your friends, you will be pleasantly surprised to have created a bride squad that looks stunning all together. After all, we’re not all stamped from the same cookie cutter – and isn’t it nice to give your besties a dress they’ll love and wear time and time again?

“There is never a wrong time for a polka dot” – Marc Jacobs

Polka dots aren’t only reserved for an ‘Itsy Bitsy Tennie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini’ as Brian Hyland’s 1960s song suggests. Add Frank Sinatra’s ‘Polka Dots and Moonbeams’ (1940), to your wedding playlist by opting for vibrant fun polka dot printed bridesmaid dresses. Twirl the night away at your reception by giving the polka dance a go! Two real wedding couples who didn’t shy away from this fun and quirky print on their big day are Matthew & Lucy and Richard & Johanna.

From the groomsmen ties to the victory rolls of the bridesmaids, the vibrant red colour scheme and the retro-inspired theme was noticeable throughout the ceremony of these newlyweds. Lucy opted for black shawls and bouquets of red foam flowers with studded white pearls, to match the red and white polka dot dresses with black ruched bust detailing, that all three of her bridesmaids wore. Not-so-little boy blue! Primary colours bring a bold colour pop to the 1950’s themed day of Mr Groom & Mrs Bride, Richard & Johanna. As a wedding coordinator herself, the bridal party were in safe hands with Johanna. The suits, flowers, ‘Audrey’ blue polka dot printed bridesmaid dresses, even the brides’ ring was 50 shades of royal blue. To break up the ocean of blue, details of pillar box red were noticed in the subtle elements of lipstick, pocket tissues and the bridesmaid’s petticoats. Mix and match with our range of bridesmaid dress ideas and brightly coloured petticoats all available from £28.00. See more details from their wedding on the Whimsical Wonderland Wedding blog here.

Create wedding photos you’ll cherish forever with floral printed bridesmaid dresses. The easiest way to achieve this is with a simple colour theme. Jamie & Kat did exactly that by including powder and slate blue tones in their big day. All six of Kat’s bridesmaids matched in our ‘Audrey’ Turquoise Floral Swing Dress. Keep updo hairstyles simple and add small delicate bouquets to tie the knot. Read more about all the details from this whimsical Welsh wedding by visiting the Rock Salt Photography blog here.

We’ve seen matching floral bridesmaid dress patterns, but what about a variety of floral dresses? Sam & Katie’s wedding vision was a pick ‘n’ mix of everything colourful and kitsch. From village fete décor to 1950’s prom, the idea was to make everyone feel relaxed and welcome on their vintage, retro, and eclectic day.

Katie chose a vintage prom dress design with a full 50’s calf length skirt for her wedding gown. The bridesmaids followed suit in several printed ‘Audrey’ Swing Dresses. The bride had twelve bridesmaids in total. Speaking on her wedding planning, Katie said “I’m so grateful to have so many wonderful friends in my life, and so I didn’t want to have to compromise how many I had just because it’s not the norm to have so many. The Lindy Bop ‘Audrey’ dress has always been my choice of a bridesmaid dress. I decided to have floral as there were more choices and sizes available, and it went with the theme of the wedding so perfectly.”
